The noise is showing in the camera meters (and can be listened to on camera-connected headphones) and of course the Atem sound meters. If I just record video with that audio source, I have very clean, lovely sound with a very low noise floor, so it's nothing to do with the audio source as such.īut once it is connected to the Atem Mini (or Pro, the fault is exactly the same with 2 units I have), the sound coming from the camera has an awful lot of noise with it. Both mixers can output low-gain enough for the mic in of the GH5. So in the setup I have a GH5, and an audio source, either a MixPre 3 II or (just for trying out another source) a Presonus Studiolive 16R, connected to the Mic in. I have some workarounds and it's not much of an issue any more since BMD introduced the audio delay feature in the BM Software, but I keep coming back to this just out of curiosity as to the issue of the noise. I was quite intrigued by this - but unfortunately disconnecting the monitor HDMI did not make one iota of difference to me. Try this solution before you purchase another device to try and fix the problem. I hope this helps someone else out there. I swapped monitors to an unbalanced (non grounded) monitor and it fixed the noise issue all together. That's right, my monitor line was causing all of my line noise. Matthew Ferguson wrote:After additional trouble shooting, I unplugged each HDMI cable one by one to see if there was a culprit. If it's just a problem with my unit I need to get a different unit. If this is a universal problem then it really calls for a fix. The ATEM Mini is clearly aimed at home users like me, and the Zoom F1 recorder is an extremely common external mic unit. ![]() Obviously that isn't possible with the ATEM Mini, and I didn't think it was possible with digital equipment. I'm a guitar player, and if I had this same issue while using a direct box I'd lift the ground and probably kill the hum. Again, I'm not an engineer, but this looks like some kind of bizarre digital ground loop. While this is a workaround that allowed me to use the blackmagic to film some videos, I don't think that this constitutes a solution to the problem. The man that I talked to at tech support (I can't remember his name) told me that he owned an F1 recorder and he would experiment with it and see if he got the same result. While we had the audio running through the HDMI into camera 1, I plugged an Ipod into Mic 1. If anyone has any ideas I am desperate for them - if I can't figure this out the Mini is useless to me.īecause it took more than a week to get this topic approved and posted I have an update - I talked to tech support at Blackmagic. I've watched as many videos as I can find on the Blackmagic, and have yet to see one that had this same problem. I can use the equalizer and drop the gain on all frequencies -20 dB and that reduces the hum to about -48 dB, but also kills the audio. For example, I can reduce the channel volume -48 dB and it totally reduces the hum (and kills the audio). ![]() I've tried used the audio mixer and found a few ways to reduce the hum, but they all make the audio so quiet as to be unusable. If the microphone is dead silent through the camera why is it so noisy into the ATEM Mini? I'm not an audio engineer, I'm just a home user and I'm not experienced with this sort of thing. This happens whether I use the audio feed from the camera through the HDMI connection or connect the camera directly to Mic 1 or Mic 2 inputs on the ATEM Mini. However, when I plug into the ATEM Mini it has a constant background hum of about -22 db. I've been using them together for months and the sound has always been great. I use a Panasonic HC-VX981 camera and a Zoom F1 recorder.
