![]() We were in Tunica July 26-30 and stayed at Gold Strike and Horseshoe (both comped) - all Tunica casinos required masks/face coverings. There are a lot more casino and dining options in Biloxi, but comps are much easier to come by in Tunica. We go to Tunica or Biloxi 4-5 times/year - both are ~9 hours drive from home. Plus, I haven't been to the Indiana casinos you mention, so I can't compare to them. But they have lots of slots and tables games and drinks. So if concern of contracting covid is what you meant, you may want to think about thatīasically, its not vegas. As a result, its has the second worst county average in all of MS at the moment. There aren't a high number of cases there yet, but the county is not very populated. Not knowing precisely what you mean by that, know that presently, on a per capita basis, the average of new daily cases in Tunica MS is more than four times the average daily number in Vegas. *You mentioned covid might prevent you from going to Vegas in September. Still, if you like sports betting, there is that. The GS is more of a sportsbar that is part of the same concept they have rolled out in vegas (and are reportedly adding to Aria soon). So if you are looking to do anything other than gamble, there's not much of anything to do nearby. *Keep in mind, there's really nothing there anymore other than the casinos. The other quick serve places, like Lucky 8 (way too greasy and just plain bad chinese food) or Pickle and Jam (meh, not the best menu) just aren't very good options. Seems like the buffets are reduced or closed at this point, but in the past the GS buffet was average (the Horseshoe and Sams Town were below average). The Binions steakhouse at Horseshoe is decent, but not as good as GS. The steakhouse at GS is legit and the best dining option down there. Now, there are fewer options and reduced hours. Sorry to say it, and I assume other Tunica fans will disagree with me here, but even in its heyday, the dining options in Tunica were mediocre at best. But there are other options within a short driving distance The Roadhouse is gone and the next closest is probably the old Ballys (what do they call it now? Jackpot casino? I can't re,member, haven't been ther ein years). *Horseshoe and GS are next to one another, but there is no third casino within walking distance. So if that is the priority, its a good reason to make the drive *Drinks are comped and service is pretty good. Hard to say whether it is worth it for you. It looks like Tunica can satisfy all those, but recent observations welcome. What I mainly enjoy doing in Vegas, other than drinking excessively, is playing craps, Video Poker, and sportsbetting. If I were able to go out it would be Aug 16/17 - 19/20 or something along those lines for 2-3 nights. Also, I undersrtand the philosophical concept that drinks at a casino are never "free" but for me psychologically not paying for drinks while gambling is a key component of what makes Vegas so great over Ohio or Indiana gambling, and one thing that attracts me to Tunica.Īnyway, I'd welcome any thoughts/observations anyone might have. My question is - is Tunica worth the extra drive time and hassle? I've never been and never really looked into it and most information I find with a google search is 10+ years old. But i noticed if I were to do Horseshoe Tunica, Gold Strike and another M圜hoice property are within walking distance, drinks are comped and there are more dining options. Looking at offers I noticed that Tunica is within driving distance. (1) Only one property within reasonable distance Indiana worth the extra drive over Hollywood Indiana.Īnyway, the drawbacks of Southern Indiana are: Our casinos in Ohio, while fairly nice, don't have hotels, so they aren't good for a "getaway" and I find So. For me, Horseshoe Southern Indiana is the "best" within a few hours. I have a couple days in a another week or so and its not enough time to justify Vegas but I was planning a brief 1-2 night stay at one of the locals. Now sitting on almost 6 months since I visited Vegas, and although I'm tentatively planning a trip to Vegas in early September, Covid and work may prevent that.
